Following the consultation, Dr. Vane then takes a series of pre-operative photos, to aid her in the smile design process, and then uses these photos to discuss with you how she would like to proceed with the case. Many times, Dr. Vane will use composite resin to “mock-up” the smile design in your mouth, so that you can have a preview of what the final results will look like in regards to the length, size, and shape of the teeth. These instructions are then conveyed to the dental lab, where the smile is first designed in wax, then perfected to ideal shapes and contours. At the veneer preparation appointment, this wax pattern is then transferred to the teeth using a mold of the wax, and a resin material that is of the desired shade you want. This will serve as the “temporaries” that you will wear while the porcelain veneers are fabricated. This also allows the patient to leave that same day with the smile of their dreams!! In addition, Dr. Vane likes to use this interim time of the temporaries to make any changes that you desire in the smile, after you have gone home and worn them for a few days. Only after your approval will she send the case off to the lab to have the porcelain work completed.
